Carn Beag Dearg.

15th March 2025

It was another pleasant day in Lochaber today. With lighter winds and warmer temperatures than yesterday it was feeling a bit more spring like. The recent dusting of fresh snow is starting to melt on Southerly aspects, but remains on shadier locations. The weather tomorrow is looking much the same.

The view along the ridge from Carn Dearg Beag.

A thin, but aesthetically pleasing drift which would have formed on Thursday night. Elsewhere most of the fresh snow had gone.

The view to Carn Dearg Mheadhonach.

Looking over to Aonach Mor. The more North facing left hand sides of many of the ribs hold the snow, but the right hand sides, which catch more sunshine hold much less snow. With only a few days until the equinox, the sun has a fair bit of strength in it at the moment.

Great views over to Ben Nevis. The shady North face holding onto the dusting of fresh snow but overall the amount of snow present on the North Face is incredibly low for the time of year. In the foreground the hillside catches a bit more sunshine, and the snow was starting to melt.

A closer view of the area between North East Buttress on the left and Number 3 Gully on the right.
