Hazy sunshine

9th March 2025

A beautiful day in Lochaber as spring continues.  Bright sun, warm and calm conditions prevailed.  The existing snowpack continues to slowly soften (especially where exposed to direct sunlight) and diminish in the warm weather.  This will change overnight as the freezing level starts to lower to around 700 metres.  This soft snowpack will start to refreeze and become icy in nature.

There is some uncertainly about our snowfall amounts over the next forecast period as we are just on the cusp of the frontal edge.  Accumulations will probably be around 1-2cm and will arrive during the morning but don’t be surprised if there is none or a bit more.  Hopefully the hills will look (a bit) whiter tomorrow.

Coire an Lochain from the South.

Coire an Lochain from the North.

Càrn Mòr Dearg with Ben Nevis behind.

The distant Grey Corries.

The prominent North-East Ridge of Aonach Beag.

A busy road today – not one hill walker spotted.
