Dry and Mild on the Ben.

6th March 2025

A mild day, but generally dry with reasonable visibility. The photos show what is left on Ben Nevis. Most of the main grade I and II gullies remain complete, but most things steeper than that are broken. Still a fair few teams out on the ridges which would have mostly been on rock with maybe some patches of snow at the top of the higher ridges.

Looking up towards Comb Buttress.

Two cheery chaps that I met just above the CIC hut. They were just one of a number of teams doing one of the Nevis Ridges today.

Looking over to the top of Number 5 Gully. There is a small amount of recent cornice debris below the upper right gully. This probably came down  in the damp conditions yesterday or the day before.  Most of the cornices are gone now, but one or two bits are hanging on. These are likely to freeze up tomorrow in the slightly colder conditions.

Looking up Observatory Gully.

The mid and upper reaches of Observatory Gully. Point Five gully, still holding some ice at the top, on the left of the image.
