Windy again

12th February 2025

Today was another cold, very windy day. Winds were very strong East-South-Easterly on the summit of Aonach Mor, although I suspect they may have again been more variable in direction in the corries on the North side of Ben Nevis as they were yesterday. Most of the snow on the high East facing slopes now has a firm crust although there was evidence of a small amount of redistribution taking place. Temperatures were below freezing at most heights overnight with the freezing level rising to around 600 metres during the day. Water ice on paths, slopes and in stream beds causing a hazard when walking. Little change in the weather is forecast for the next few days.

Looking North from near the summit of Aonach Mor

Raised footprints at the top of Easy gully. These have formed where the strong Easterly winds have removed the softer snow leaving areas compressed by previous walking as raised foot prints.

Looking South along the cliffs in Coire an Lochain, Aonach Mor. Easy gully is hidden from view in the centre.

Coire Dubh, Aonach Mor

Some limited redistribution in the strong winds.
