Winter returns

16th January 2024

After light snow showers through the morning there was several hours of heavy snow this afternoon. This significant snow will lead to a considerable avalanche hazard in the Lochaber mountains overnight and into tomorrow. Please read the main forecast for details.

On Aonach Mor

Heading up the Nid ridge on Aonach Mor.

 

Small snow wind lip.

Fresh small snow wind lip on the Ridge. This gives an indication of windblown snow, and deposition.

 

Snow deposits

Fresh windslab being deposited on an Easterly aspect. This had multiple weak layers within it.

 

Man made snow

It’s snow Jim, but not as we know it. Man made snow at Nevis range, made from ice particles.

 

Snowy drive home

Snowy drive home. By the afternoon the heavy snow set in for several hours, resulting in an interesting drive home.
