A Brief Clearing.

4th April 2024

After some overnight snow and a cold night, it warmed up significantly through the morning. It was a mostly cloudy, although there was a few bright spells during which it felt like a very pleasant winter’s day. Tomorrow (and the weekend) are unfortunately not looking to be very pleasant winters days. Turning milder with some rain and strong winds. Although lovely clear calm winter day’s aren’t that common in Lochaber, there feels like there has been less than usual this winter. Will try and do some analysis of the winter’s weather data so far this season for tomorrow’s blog

The temperature on the summit of Aonach Mor for the past few days. The daily cycle can be seen, the maximum temperature each day is during the early afternoon. It got quite cold last night on the summit, but warmed up a lot through the morning.

Coire an Lochan looking very pleasant in the sunshine.

The top of Easy Gully. Footsteps from a climber who had been down recently. A few bit and bobs of cornices around but really not that much compared to some seasons.

Ben Nevis and Carn Mor Dearg during a brief clear spell.

Remember the photos on the blog (or on the internet in general) often don’t give a true impression of what it was like. This was the view for most of the time I was around the summit are.

Looking down the hill from within the ski area. There were various layers of cloud at different levels that came and went through the morning. It loos quite white, but much of this is a thin layer of snow from the overnight snow fall that will be gone by this time tomorrow.
