Another wild and windy day

12th January 2023

Freezing level was relatively high on the hill today at around 950-1000 metres. The snow was quite damp on Aonach Mor, until the final summit slopes. Currently there is a fair amount of snow high up on the bigger mountains in Lochaber. The recent low pressure weather systems have brought fluctuation temperatures, and this looks set to continue over the next few days, along with further precipitation.

Looking up the Goose this morning.

The Met office weather station on Aonach Mor, mentioned yesterday, had plenty of weather to monitor today.

Rapidly developing rime ice at the summit of Aonach Mor

Rime ice develops into the wind on exposed structures. In relatively moist and cold conditions, it can develop rapidly, as is the case at the moment.
