Mild and windy

1st February 2022

Although not a named storm it was another very windy day. It was also mild with the freezing level above the summits during the night, dropping to around 1000 metres during the day. The snowpack remains generally stable, thawing at lower elevations but with the surface re-freezing  above 1000 metres. Hopefully these melt/freeze cycles, of which there are more to come, will result in some good ice for climbing.

A young spruce tree at 750 metres that I hadn’t spotted before. The mild conditions should suit it.
