Ben Nevis and Aonach Mor

11th February 2022

Here are some images from Ben Nevis and Aonach Mor from today. Still a significant amount of windslab around up high and with further snowfall this evening, followed by the rise in freezing level overnight, this should produce a another active avalanche cycle. In the long run, this should help build up the underlying base in the snowpack, but in the short term it feels quite painful!!

Corrie na Ciste with Number 3 Gully in the centre. Avalanche debris from yesterday comes down just to the right of the 2 climbers but hidden by the flat light.

Graupel in the snowpack today causing a weak layer.

Crown wall from yesterday’s avalanche just to the left of Number 4 gully.

The West face of Carn Mor Dearg is mostly scoured.

Looking south from the top of Left Twin, Aonach Mor

Looking north over the crags in Coire an Lochain, Aonach Mor
