Mild Wet and Windy Again

28th January 2022

There was a brief spell of calmer weather early this morning before the weather turned wet and windy and the freezing level rose above the summits. The cloud was lowering as we walked in towards Ben Nevis so the photos are limited but show the thawing conditions. A thin layer of new snow was visible above 900 metres early this morning, this is now rapidly thawing. The thaw will continue overnight before the freezing level drops tomorrow morning and the remaining snow will start to refreeze.

The walk in before the rain became heavy.

A small area of snow remaining below the minus face

Very limited snow below the castle gullies
