Thawing at most levels

11th December 2020

Covid-19

The Scottish Avalanche Information Service would recommend that those wishing to enjoy the winter mountains refer to Mountaineering Scotland and Scottish Government advice regarding Covid-19 and outdoor activities.

With the freezing level around 1100m the snowpack continues to slowly thaw.

North East slopes of Carn Dearg Meadhonach (cloud on top) and Carn Beag Dearg (right) from Meall Beag (Aonach Mor).

Looking West over Caol and along Loch Eil.

Lovely boulder almost completely covered with a variety of lichens and mosses.

A nice example of the lichen Ochrolechia tartarea (as far as I know it doesn’t have an English name).
