Snow showers and a bit less windy

Snow showers and strong Westerly winds again today but not as strong as the last few days.

The weaknesses observed in the snowpack today were caused by graupel although there were probably other weaknesses which would be more evident on steeper slopes where the graupel tends to run off.

Good snow cover on an East aspect.

The wind dropped enough today to allow some lifts to open at Nevis Range.

Sunshine and showers.

There is a lot of graupel in the snowpack as shown in the video below. A layer of graupel acts like ball bearings and leads to a weakness in the snowpack.
