Deteriorating weather

21st January 2018

Something of a contrast to yesterday! When the poor weather arrived late morning it did so with a certain amount of enthusiasm!. Strong SE winds and heavy snow for a period, followed by rising temperatures, with the freezing level reaching 900m by 4pm.

Managed to skin up from the North Face Carpark which is quite unusual (and ski back down again) but by the time you got to the tree-line, conditions were somewhat difficult with very strong winds, deep snow and visibility down to 20m

The current warmer temperatures should help to consolidate the snowpack, especially at lower elevations which should be a good thing, although there will be a period of instability first.

Skinning up from the North Face Carpark. A fairly unusual occurrence !

Poor Conditions at 300m altitude!!
