Poor Visibility

2nd March 2016

It was a wild day with poor visibility on the hill today. After yesterdays thaw, there is areas of of very hard icy snow. Overnight snow and showers through the day were rapidly building up areas of soft unstable windslab. I heard reports of avalanches occurring in yesterdays thaw, and I would not be surprised if there was some fresh avalanche activity through the day, but the very poor visibility prevented me from observing very much. Hopefully it will be a bit clearer tomorrow. However, if you observe any avalanche activity/fresh debris it would be much appreciated if you could record it here http://www.sais.gov.uk/report_avalanche/

IMGP0504

Two figures just visible through the mist.

IMGP0507

Typical view at 1200 metres. Some hard and icy areas, some areas of soft fresh windslab.
