Freezing on Top
23rd March 2016
It was a slightly cold day than of late with the freezing level around 900 metres. Above this level the snowpack has frozen, and it hard and icy, below this level it continues to slowly thaw. All change tomorrow with about 10cm of fresh snow being forecast.

The buttresses are generally quite black. However, reports suggest that some good snow/ice remains in the higher gullies.

The surface of the snowpack is very hard at higher levels. The first stage of digging todays snowpit required sawing through the hard icy layer, then levering it out with the shovel.
