Very Different to Yesterday.

21st March 2015

It was a beautiful spring day in Lochaber, very different to yesterday. The snowpack set up hard overnight, but was softening slightly on aspects exposed to the strong sunshine. There were lots to people out enjoying the conditions which was good to see.

Signs of the settling of the snow pack in the milder conditions of the past few days.

Looking back to Ben Nevis from the summit of Aonach Beag. Although it might not show up in the picture, I could clearly see the crown wall of the large Number 5 Gully avalanche.

Aonach Beag

Aonach Beag. A couple of skiers were enjoying the nice spring snow on the way down to the col.

The snow was rather firm on the plateau this morning. It softened slightly on Southerly aspects through the day but remained firm on Northerly aspects.

Some large cornices remain. I did see evidence of some minor cornice collapse on a South-Easterly aspect.
