Icy Rime

8th February 2015

Today the tops were also covered in a layer of thick, damp cloud.  The freezing level was around 1200 metres. At that level objects such as my ski poles were quickly covered in a layer clear icy rime. However, it was only very slightly below freezing and any object emitting a slight bit of heat such as people, were warm enough for the rime to melt and for me to get rather wet.

An icy layer of rime built up on my ski poles in about 20 minutes.

Very clear icy rime which took an hour or so to build up.

However the slightest hint of heat (in this case from me) and the outside of my Mountain Equipment jackets was pretty wet.
