Another Stormy Day
30th December 2023
It was a wild and stormy day in Lochaber today. I went for a slight earlier start than normal to get up the hill before the winds became too strong. Heading upward there was still. Although not to windy when walking up the Nevis Range bike track, plumes of spindrift could be seen coming off Carn Beag Dearg. I had a fair idea what was to come weather wise, and around 10.30 or 11am, the wind suddenly increased and lots of snow started to be blown around. Shortly after that it also started to snow, although in the strong winds much of the fresh snow was being blown off the hills.
Drifting off Carn Beag Dearg this morning.
Passing the the top station on the way up the hill just before the weather changed. I met two keen ski tourers who had carried their skis to the top station. The snow was not at it’s finest for skiing today, but they seemed to enjoy being out.
Looking up the Goose, as visibility is starting to go.
Looking down hill from the same point as the previous shot. The increasing winds were picking up lots of snow.
Top station on my way back down the hill (around midday). It was pretty wild by this point with lots of snow blowing around (but not a much amount sticking anywhere).
Continuing down the hill it was wild and stormy. Down at the tree line at around 350 metres it was still gusting 50 or 60 mph.
