Lochaber Blog & Mountain Info

As highlighted by my crystal card, the was thin but very unusually icy layer on the surface of the snowpack at higher levels today. It was less than 1cm thick, but was made up from almost clear water ice. It was either a form a glaze ice, formed by freezing rain/drizzle, or very hard icy rime, which is caused by supercooled water drops in the atmosphere.
