Ben Nevis for the last forecast of the season

15th April 2026

Mild temperatures and rain gave thaw conditions on Ben Nevis today. There were several surface instabilities noted, most likely caused by cornice collapse or icefall during the heavier rain last night. Some large cornices remain and will continue to be a hazard during milder spells.

The freezing level is forecast to fall to around 1200 metres on Thursday with some wet summit snow on the highest summits. The snowpack will continue to gradually consolidate through Thursday with thaw conditions at most levels.

Photos show conditions on Ben Nevis as we finish the 2025/6 forecasting season. Forecasts and blogs will restart in December 2026. Thanks for reading.

I haven’t made it to the Highlands this season but your posts have been interesting and informative throughout. Thanks very much – I’m counting down the months already for the return.
