A refreeze

23rd March 2026

The freezing level dropped to around 650 metres last night and the old snowpack refroze. It was still very firm this morning but started to soften during the day as the temperature rose.

There was a dusting of snow yesterday evening with some drifting at higher elevations but accumulations were not significant. Further snow fell at higher elevations in the afternoon, gradually turning to rain as the afternoon progressed.

Cloud was coming and going at summit level on Aonach Mor this morning. Some photos of what could be seen below.

A dusting of snow fell yesterday evening above 600 metres. This photo was taken at 670 metres this morning and the snow here had melted a few hours later.

Temperatures at 1130 metres on Aonach Mor for yesterday and today. The temperature dropped to -5 degrees last night, freezing the snowpack which gradually softened as the temperature rose today.
