Cooler

27th February 2026

The freezing level dropped to around 900 metres today and above this the snowpack surface was icy; weight bearing in most places but a breakable crust in some places. Yesterdays fresh snow had consolidated and there was just a dusting of fresh snow overnight.

It was mostly cloudy while I was out but it brightened up in the afternoon.

Aonach Mor was cloud free this morning. There’s no longer enough snow for lift accessed skiing.

Looking down the Goose at Nevis Range. Cloud both above and below me at this point.

Easy Gully. This would be a steep ski or down climb, or an easy abseil at the moment.

Coire an Lochan.

The sun was nearly breaking through the cloud at times.

    Hello,

Did you happen to get a look at what the steeper rock in the coire was looking like?
There was some snow forecast this morning and I’m trying to get an idea whether any of the mixed routes on aonach mor have received a coating

Cloud meant that I couldn’t see much looking down into the corries. The snow that came early this morning was less than forecast and won’t have made much difference to climbing conditions. No sign of anyone climbing on the East face today but quite a few teams headed for the West face this morning.
