Sunshine
17th February 2026
It was a cold, sunny day with light to moderate East-South-Easterly winds. There has been poor visibility for the last few days so today was a chance to have a good look around at snow distribution and see what recent avalanche activity there had been.
Photos below all taken on Aonach Mor. A picture speaks a thousand words…
Carn Mor Dearg with Ben Nevis behind. Note the crown wall from a recent avalanche below the ridge to the right of Carn Mor Dearg.
This avalanche down Spikes was triggered by a skier this morning. The cornice that they were standing on collapsed and the combined weight triggered the avalanche. They were fortunate to end up on the surface, uninjured about half way down and their tracks can be seen carrying on down.
