Summits in the cloud (again)

3rd February 2026

It was another day with poor visibility on the tops. The temperature dropped and the snowpack surface is mostly firm and icy with a breakable crust under foot in some locations. There was a very small amount of overnight snow creating fresh windslab in very sheltered areas.

Some photos below from Aonach Mor showing conditions.

Looking down the Goose from around 1000 metres. Very good snow cover at this height. Firm but grippy snow here but more icy lower down where there’s been more melt/freeze cycles.

Poor visibility and a lot of riming above 1000 metres.

Nevis Range are busy getting things ready to open for skiing.
