Nevis Range

19th January 2026

Despite the Nevis Range gondola being closed for maintenance, there have been people up on Aonach Mor most days. These have mainly been ski/snowboard tourers but also some walkers and climbers. Judging by the ski tracks still visible today yesterday was popular. I didn’t see anyone else today but one e-bike did make it up to the top of the gondola.

Poor visibility above around 1000 metres today with strong South-South-Easterly winds and drifting snow forming a shallow but unstable layer of surface windslab. Instabilities are also persisting deeper in the snowpack.

Pictures showing snow cover below.

Looking down the quad chair.

Looking up from the bottom of the Goose T-bar. Looks like it was hard going on foot yesterday.

Very poor visibility at times today on the higher summits. You can see the summit hut on the left which was only a few metres from me. If you look really closely you can also pick out the top of the summit tow and the mobile mast.

This cheered me up, drawn by someone yesterday I guess.

I am no doubt only-fashioned but e-bikes on the hill?

There seem to be e-bikes everywhere these days.
