Merry Christmas

25th December 2025

It was another dry sunny day with light winds. There was a significant temperature inversion. At 8am the temperature at sea level in Fort William was -4 degrees Celsius while on Aonach Mor at 1200 metres it was +4. Despite the mild summit temperature, the snowpack was frozen hard. This is due to radiative cooling during the night and the low humidity which meant that the wet bulb temperature at 8am was around -2 degrees Celsius.

High pressure and settled conditions are expected for the next few days.

Photos below show snow cover in the Lochaber area (and beyond). Wishing all our readers a very Merry Christmas!
