Pleasantly Benign

6th December 2025

I was expecting strong winds and some rain on the hill today, so was pleasantly surprised to encounter neither. It had been quite wild overnight with strong winds and some precipitation which fell as snow at higher levels. However, by morning it was dry with light winds.  It did remain cloudy on the tops, but I was able to see a little more than I had been able to yesterday.  The freezing level slowly rose to just above the summits by mid morning. However, the thaw was slow, and the snowpack was slowly consolidating in the settled conditions.

The view up the Goose. If you compare to the photo on yesterday’s blog you can see a bit more snow today, the stream in particular being no longer visible.

Walking up through the ski area. Old footprint are visible in the foreground, but these are then covered by a fresh drift coming from the snow fence on the left.

The top of the crags. Some recent cornice formation is visible.

Other sections of crag are rimed up.

Over on Ben Nevis. Not looking too wintry on the walk in today.

The CIC hut. Although not looking too wintry at this level, there will be plenty of winter higher up hidden by the cloud.

The view into Coire na Ciste.

The cloud level lifted slightly early afternoon to reveal a bit more white snow.
