Consolidation

3rd March 2025

A brief warm period last night, which coincided with a little rain, has helped to consolidate the snowpack and stability has improved since yesterday. It has also caused some thawing and the mountains aren’t looking as white. Particularly noticeable was the loss of rime at higher elevations and snow from areas that had a thin cover at lower elevations.

The higher summits were in cloud (again) but some photos of what could be seen from Aonach Mor are below.

The Goose area of Nevis Range.

Looking between Aonach Mor and Carn Mor Dearg to the Mamores.

Coire an Lochan looking South. Most of the rime melted last night so the rocks are looking blacker but there hasn’t been much snow loss at this altitude.

Aonach Mor was looking a lot less white today.

Temperature at 1200 metres on Aonach Mor for the last 5 days. The fairly brief temperature rise to 1.6 degrees Celsius last night has helped the snowpack to consolidate.
