The relative calm before the storm
23rd January 2025
After a few patches of blue sky early on, it was a generally grey and cloudy day. There were a few snow showers, but these tended to be quite light. This has not changed the general situation, the higher hills have a cosmetic dusting of snow which makes things look white but has no real depth to it. It is forecast to be a wild day tomorrow with Storm Eowyn producing some very strong winds and a fair bit of snow. However, my feeling is that the winds will be too strong for much of the falling snow to stick, and that most of it will dissipate back into the atmosphere.

There is a few centimetres of fresh snow at higher levels. This photo (taken at an altitude of about 1000 metres) was the last in the way of view that I had.

The summit run. On the Right Hand Side there is a thin layer of old hard snow with a few centimetres of fresh snow on top.
