Poor visibility

31st January 2025

There was poor visibility above 650 metres while I was on the hill today. A few centimetres of fresh snow fell overnight and it was mainly dry today. The freezing level was slowly rising, reaching 1100 metres by midday. The snowpack was slowly consolidating and this consolidation will continue tomorrow.

Not a good day for photos!

Poor visibility at 1100 metres. Some rocks, a ski lift and the groomer headlights give some contrast here. Travel in snowier areas was quite disorientating.

Lots of riming and more poor visibility at 1200 metres on Aonach Mor.

Better visibility at lower altitude. This photo was taken at 600 metres on a North aspect where the snowpack was slowly thawing.
