Cold, dry and sunny
9th January 2025
The good winter weather continues. Little change in the snowpack since yesterday with mostly soft, unconsolidated snow sitting on bare ground. Some localised and shallow areas of windslab are present at higher elevations and some fragile cornices have formed.
The photos below show snow cover around the Lochaber area.
Carn Mor Dearg, the arete and Ben Nevis. Note the snow blowing from the ridge just to the left of Carn Mor Dearg summit. This wind and a temperature around -8 degrees Celsius made what looks like a lovely sunny day feel quite chilly.

A distant shot of Carn Mor Dearg and Ben Nevis.
Tracks from snowshoes, skis, and boots near the summit of Aonach Mor. The boot tracks were older, probably yesterday. I reckon that snowshoes probably gave the easiest journey today.

Easy Gully
Plenty of rime ice. This had mostly developed with Northerly winds.
