Sunny Saturday

24th February 2024

It was a lovely sunny day on the hills in Lochaber today. The snowpack is slowly consolidating, but some significant cornices remain. Lots of pictures today which should give you a good idea of conditions.

A lovely inversion this morning. Here the higher tops of the Grey Coires can be seen poking through. Through the morning some of this lower level cloud burnt off, but it did not completely dissipate.

The South Side of Coire an Lochan with overnight avalanche/cornice collapse debris being evident.

Looking back to the North Side of the Coire.

Ben Nevis and Carn Mor Dearg.

Looking South-West over the Sgurr a’ Mhaim and Am Bodach to the Glen Coe hills in the distance.

Aonach Beag.

There are some impressive (and unstable) looking cornices about at the moment. I would not want to be under one of these when it drops off (and drop off it will, I am just not sure when!).

There is a substantial unstable looking cornice at the top of Easy Gully. Note the set of footprints are further back from the cornice than they appear in the photo.
