Wet again

25th January 2024

After some overnight snow it was another wet day with rain to summit level and Strong Southerly winds. The rising temperature and rain resulted in recent windslab getting saturated and there was a period of poor stability this morning.

Today I also had a look at the Holfuy weather station as it hadn’t been working for a few days. Thankfully it just needed a reboot and is now working again. It’s situated at around 1200 metres on Aonach Mor and readings can be accessed at https://holfuy.com/en/weather/1365. It doesn’t measure wind speeds but these can be found on the Met Office site from their weather station at 1130 metres also on Aonach Mor https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/observations/gfh7qbhun

The snowmelt here at 900 metres is mainly from below caused by running water on the ground.

After a dry January there has been a lot of precipitation in the last week. Unfortunately most of this fell as rain.
