Very cold

15th January 2024

The temperature at 1200 metres dropped to -10.7 degrees Celsius this morning and it felt much colder in the Northerly wind. After some light overnight snow showers it was a dry day. Cloud was coming and going at summit level. Lochaber just missed some heavier snow showers which fell closer to the West coast as can be seen in the first photo below.

The snowpack remains generally firm with a crust in places. Isolated areas of fresh unstable windslab are present in wind sheltered locations.

Looking West along Loch Eil. Note the increasing snow amounts further West.

Looking up towards Aonach Mor. Just a very small amount of fresh snow.

Looking down into Coire an Lochan, Aonach Mor.

Carn Mor Dearg with Ben Nevis behind.
