Thawing

27th January 2024

A mild wet and windy day in Lochaber today. Precipitation fell as snow above around 1150 metres overnight, then turned to rain at all levels by the end of the afternoon as the freezing level rose above the summits. Mild conditions continue tomorrow with rain at all levels and the Southerly wind becomes even stronger. The good news is it is set to be calmer and colder on Monday and Tuesday.

Some pictures of the thaw conditions on Ben Nevis, photos limited by visibility today.

Carn Dearg Buttress and the Castle area.

As much of Coire na Ciste as I got to see today. Lots of snow melt in the streams.

North East Buttress and the Douglas Boulder
