Aonach Mor

14th February 2023

After an overnight freeze it was a mild day with a midday temperature at 1200m 0f 2.0 degrees. There were strong South-South-West winds and some light rain. The snowpack was firm and stable with the surface softening slightly.

Weather data is now available again from the CIC hut on Ben Nevis. It is at 680 metres should be good for temperature readings but being in a valley and in the lee of Ben Nevis in respect of the prevailing winds, the wind direction here is very often influenced by the surrounding terrain and can be very different to the wind direction in other places on Ben Nevis. https://holfuy.com/en/weather/1746

Poor visibility above 1000 metres so only a few photos today.

Refrozen slush giving very icy conditions in places on the Aonach Mor plateau.

A climber descending Easy Gully.

One of the many snow bollards at the top of Easy Gully.

Not much snow below 900 metres.
