Dry and Windy

23rd December 2022

It was a dry day with a significant East to South-Easterly winds at higher levels. The freezing level was about 750 metres. The old snowpack which got wet a couple of days ago has firmed up such that crampons are required., I wore mine from about 850 metres.  There was a dusting of fresh snow, but nothing significant. We should get a bit of snow tomorrow. Conditions forecast to remain unsettled over the next few days,  should help to improve winter conditions.

Cloud cap over Ben Nevis and Carn Mor Dearg. Often indicative of high winds, as was the case today.

The view from 1000 metres. There had been a very slight dusting of fresh snow which was being blown about by the wind.

Iced up snow fences at 1200 metres.

Not great visibility at 1200 metres. It was also pretty cold and windy up there as well.
