Good Snow Cover in Lochaber.

5th March 2020

It was another fine day in Lochaber. Like the last few days the cloud was coming and going at higher levels, but winds were light and there was some nice sunny spells. I met a number of ski tourer’s taking advantage of the good snow cover. Looks like another good day tomorrow (Friday) before a change to “less pleasant” conditions this weekend.

A tourer following my tracks along the Stob a Cul Choir ridge. In general access is a lot easier on ski than on foot at the moment.

The descent is not too bad on a pair of skis either. Plenty of snow in the upper Allt Choille-rais. Tom na Sroine on the right.

Looking back up into Coire an Lochan.

A few pictures from Ben Nevis. Looking into Coire na Ciste from the Douglas Boulder.

Looking over towards Carn Dearg.

Climbers at the base of Vanishing Gully (the line of the route is quite hidden from this angle). The routes on the lower flanks of Tower ridge and those on the Minus Face have been quite popular recently, and tend to have tracks into then. People have (sensibly) been staying away from the higher gullies on the Ben recently.
