Fresh soft snow

17th December 2019

Overnight snow coincided with light winds to give a blanket of soft powdery snow on all aspects. This made travel on foot difficult and slow. The great skiing conditions were slightly spoilt by the lack of visibility. This soft snow is currently quite stable but will become a hazard tomorrow when it is redistributed by the strengthening winds leading to fresh unstable windslab developing.

The snow was belly deep if you were a dog. These two soon learnt that following the ski tracks was the easiest way to make progress.

Ski tourers making the most of the fresh snow.

Poor visibility restricted the view into Coire an Lochain.
