Mild and windy

20th March 2019

There were strong South-West winds today and the freezing level was well above the summits. There was quite a lot of cloud about with some drizzle but there was also some reasonable visibility at times.

The snowpack is wet at all levels. The large amounts of rime that coated rocks and man-made structures has now mostly melted. Some cornices have collapsed but many remain and are likely to collapse in the next 24 hours.

Many large cornices remain and these are likely to collapse in the warm conditions potentially triggering avalanches on the slopes below.

Coire Dubh, Aonach Mor still has a good snow cover. There was quite a lot of debris in the corrie, mainly from cornice collapse, and a particularly large lump of cornice can be seen to the left of the top of Braveheart chair.
