A great day in Lochaber!

20th January 2018

It was a fantastic day in Lochaber today, especially after the cloud lifted late morning. There is loads of deep fresh snow at all aspects. Some extensive accumulations of soft unstable snow, especially on the steep aspects. The freezing level is due to rise tomorrow so that should make the snowpack increasingly unstable and will lead to a period of natural avalanche activity.

Although tomorrow might not be that pleasant, it will help to consolidate the snowpack quite a bit before the return to more winter conditions on Monday and through next week

Obvious evidence of recent wind direction and drifting

Lots of snow!
