Clearing Up Nicely
5th April 2018
After some overnight snow and then a cloudy morning it cleared up quite nicely around midday. When the clouds did break up, the April sun was feeling pretty strong. Recent avalanche activity was noted on a steep Southerly aspect. A fair few weak cornices about as well.
Some weak cornices around. The near section of this cornice had already collapsed, the further away section hangs on precariously.
Drifts on the Aonach Mor plateau caused the drifting in the variable winds of the past few days.
The top of the West Face of Aonach Mor. Westerly aspects tended to be scoured in exposed areas, with patches of slab remaining in less exposed locations.
Skiers at the top of Summit Gully as the cloud started to break up.
More skiers enjoying the good snow cover.
Looking down into An Cul Choire a tongue of avalanche debris can be seen.
Good cover in the Grey Coires.
Looking back to Spikes Gully and Coire an Lochan.
