Again not much visibility on Aonach Mor
21st February 2017
Initially there were some views but during the late morning the cloud base lowered, freezing level rose above the summits and there was persistent rain at all levels.

Hi there,
we are planning to be in the CIC hut this weekend and have noted the absence of much climbable ice or snow. Will you have the chance to report on the upper Coire na Ciste conditions before the weekend? We would be keen to know what the level of attrition is and is it to a point that routes like Comb, Green and Central Gullies are incomplete or unclimable?
Many thanks
Douglas

Hi Douglas, Was on the Ben today, and have put some pictures up on the blog. However, visibility was not great. I am not sure how routes like Comb, Green and Central Gullies are holding up. You might be able to fins more information from the blogs of various local mountaineering instructors/guides. Hope your weekend in the hut works out.

Thanks for the insights on the conditions. Considering the lack of icing on the highest crags (Creag Coire na Ciste looks stripped), the lack of any reports of climbing on the mountain this week, the dump of snow yesterday to be followed by rising temperatures and rain tomorrow, we think there are safer options than the Ben at the moment. Thanks for the hard work and helpful response. Your efforts are appreciated and hopefully there aren’t too many dafties on the hill over the weekend.
Thnaks again
Douglas
