Wetter than an otter’s pocket.

7th March 2015

Fair to say it was rather damp on Ben Nevis today. It felt like the greatest hazard was falling through thawing snow bridges into the streams below. It was not very appealing to try and cross the burn at the usual spot below the CIC hut and I had to go above the hut to get across. The big block of snow in the centre collapsed shortly after the photo was taken.

There was also some recent avalanche activity with fresh debris being observed in the base of Observatory Gully as well as below Number 2 Gully.

All change tomorrow with a return to colder and drier conditions.

The burn has cut a deep slot in the snowpack. I had to go upstream on the CIC hut to cross.

The snowpack had collapsed into the burn making cross in difficult at the usual crossing spot. I had to go upstream of the CIC hut to cross (and came back down to take this picture)

Fair to say the snowpack was rather damp today.
