Better Weather.
20th December 2014
A slight ridge of high pressure brought some slightly calmer weather than of late. However, it was certainly not blue skies and powder snow. Â There were still snow showers through the day, and the tops were clagged in apart from about two minutes. The snowpack got very wet on Wednesday and Thursday, and this has frozen to become really hard and icy (crampons required). It did look like ice was forming well. There has been a fair bit for fresh snow over the past couple of days. Â This looked like it provided some good skiing where it had drifted, but many areas were scoured and really icy. I could not see if there had been any natural avalanche activity, but a large section of fresh cornice which had cracked but not released, showed that things were not totally stable.
