Ben Nevis

11th February 2025

Today was another cold, windy day although slightly warmer than previous days. Winds were forecast Easterly although in Coire na Ciste on Ben Nevis direction was very variable with gusts in one direction one minute and the opposite the next, this isn’t uncommon when Easterly winds are forecast. There were also few isolated unexpected snow showers. There is little change in the snowpack, a slow consolidation continues. There is limited snow at lower elevations although ice is developing and is a hazard on paths and in water courses. The snow surface is hard and icy in places with breakable crust in others. Isolated windslab deposits are still possible at the tops of gullies as detailed in the report. Photos show conditions in Coire na ciste and the development of ice at mid elevations.

Limited snow below the lochans in Coire na Ciste, but ice is forming in watercourses.

Always good to meet a person behind these reports. Alex and I met you on our way to Castle Ridge this morning.
We changed our mind when we got to the foot of the ridge. With the gusty wind we thought better of it and went to Douglass Boulder West Gully and had a play in the spindrift there instead.
Keep up the great work. The reports and photos are always very helpful and good to see.
