Better visibility

17th December 2024

The cloud base was slightly higher today and the wind less strong giving me a better chance to get up high and see what snow was left. Not much was my conclusion, with what there is mainly in high hollows and around corrie rims. There was a slight hint of whiteness in the rain at 1200 metres which would have been wet snow on Ben Nevis summit. It’s forecast to get warmer overnight so I expect this to melt again. The freezing level will then drop through the day tomorrow reaching around 700 metres by the end of the afternoon but unfortunately it will be mainly dry at this time with only small amounts of snow expected.
