Thawing

After a decent snowfall yesterday it’s all change today. The freezing level rose above the summits yesterday aftenoon with some rain in the late afternoon/evening followed by heavy rain around dawn. This has washed away most of yesterday’s fresh snow and debris was observed from a wet snow avalanche in Coire na Ciste.
Very windy and mild today but a dry morning and a cloud base above the summits gave some good views of the remaining snow.
Aonach Mor, Carn Dearg Meadhonach and Ben Nevis.

Fresh debris in Coire na Ciste probably came down during rain late yesterday afternoon.
Temperature at 1200 metres on Aonach Mor. After 4 days of sub-zero temperatures it’s now much warmer. The temperature peaked at 5 degrees Celsius today.
Precipitation in Glen Nevis. The heavy precipitation early on the 5th April fell as snow on the hills but the precipitation later on the 5th and that on the 6th fell as rain to summit level.
