Winter Continues.

11th April 2026

Winter continues at higher levels in Lochaber at the moment. There was a fair amount of fresh snow overnight, and this  was drifting heavily in the strong Southerly winds during the day. Raised footprints and sastrugi were indicators of the redistribution of the existing snowpack. The photos show quite a sunny day, there were some heavy snow showers during the day as well. The weather forecast is for it to turn slightly milder tomorrow, but with strong winds and snow showers, it will remain pretty wintry feeling on the summits I suspect.

The View up by the Goose T-Bar this morning. A group of 3 ski tourers can be seen in the distance. Lots of snow blowing around in the wind.

A good example of sastrugi, caused by the erosion of the snowpack by strong winds.

Raised footsteps, another indications of the redistribution of soft surface layers of the snowpack over the past 24 hours.

Looking South across Coire an Lochan with spindrift coming of the plateau obscuring the tops of the crags on the South Side. The large cornices mentioned on yesterday’s blog remain.

Looking back North across the coire during a sunny spell. Spindrift making for poor view into the coire, and large cornices making it hazardous to go too close to the edge.

The view over the Mamores with the Glen Coe hills behind.

Stob a Cul Choire in the foreground with the Grey Coires behind.
