Coire an Lochain

It was another breezy but otherwise dry and pleasant day in Lochaber. Weather and snow conditions were very similar to those of yesterday. The snowpack is generally pretty firm, although softening slightly during the day. I decided to take the opportunity to head into Coire an Lochain to have a closer look at the debris of the large avalanche that occurred there a week and a half or so ago. Although it had melted out a bit, still quite impressive in scale.
Debris from the big avalanche in Coire an Lochan at the end of February. It has melted out a bit now, so probably not as impressive as it originally was. In terms of volume it is probably the largest in Lochaber for a few years. However, the past few winter seasons have been poor with relatively little snow and avalanche activity, so perhaps that is not saying much.
The debris reached the still frozen loch but did not smash through the ice in a spectacular way as sometimes happens in the likes of Coire an Lochan in the Northern Cairngorms.

Looking up towards the crags on the South side of the Coire. These look to be holding a bit more snow and ice than those on the North side of the Coire as shown in the previous photo.
The ridge up to Stob a Cul Choire with Aonach Beag in the cloud behind. Not much of a view this morning, but it looked to have cleared up during the afternoon.
